Mental Health Support

Understand mental health

There is still an absence of understanding about the prevalence of mental health issues. Regrettably there is also some misconceptions and prejudices about poor mental state. There is evidence from research which informs that we experience poor mental and emotional health at some points in our lives – although at different levels

Important to remember about mental health :

  • mental ill health is very common – the Government’s Department of Health advises that one in four of us will experience it at some point in our lives.
  • staff with positive mental health are more likely to work productively, interact well with colleagues and adapt to changes in the workplace.
  • staff supported by their employer are more likely to be able to stay in work or return to work after a period of absence, reducing long-term absences in the organisation.
  • staff who feel unable to talk to their manager may attend work when they are too ill to safely carry out their duties,- this could exacerbate their illness leading to longer term sickness absence or could place work colleagues at risk of harm due to unsafe practices.

How Transforming Minds Helps Both the Service User and Family

We understand that caring for someone suffering from mental health conditions can be tough and challenging, often involving friends and family members to take it in turns to provide support as a carer.

The Transforming Minds team helps both the individual and their family by offering the assistance of an experienced carer or team of carers. As our team are caring for the individual, this takes away much of the pressure on friends and family who, up until now, has been solely or partially responsible for meeting the needs of that person.

As part of our services, Transforming Minds will also collaborate with therapists, social workers and other members of the individuals care team, where necessary, to help increase the individual’s independence. This is to help the individual live an independent and fulfilling life as possible. For those suffering from mental health conditions, such as depression, offering the opportunity to speak to therapists and other healthcare professionals can be a great benefit regarding the needs of the individual and managing their condition.

We take a person-centred approach when creating the individual’s care plan, as well as any future changes to it, communicating with the individual, their family and care team at all times to make sure it is reflective of changing needs and is progressive and outcome focussed.

Our mental health support plan includes:

  • Support with day-to-day tasks such as cooking, cleaning and shopping
  • Provide access to therapists and rehabilitation clinics where necessary
  • Additional support to families
  • Live-in and/or visiting care

Residential care

Our residential care is the best solution when it comes to long-term care. We suggest residential care to people who require extra care and additional support. Our specialists meet the individuals and carry out an assessment to suggest the specific facilities that are important for their well-being.  In the residential setting, we encourage people with autism to take part in activities and interact with other peers and staff members.  At Transforming Minds, we make sure the individuals are living a life they were accustomed to. One-to-one discussions

One of the challenges faced by people with autism is the difficulty to interact and socialise. To help them overcome this, we involve them in discussions where they can share what they feel and what they want. Our specialists have face-to-face conversations with individuals where they are encouraged to tell their stories and how they want their life to be, to make them less hesitant to interact and communicate.
